New Driver Training Program: Basic Controls

This course is designed to help CMV drivers understand basic vehicle controls and maneuvers.
A professional driver must have a good understanding of basic vehicle controls. These controls set the foundation for future lessons and daily operation of a CMV.

After completing this course, learners will be able to:

  • Discuss how to start up and shut down your vehicle’s engine
  • Describe how to put your vehicle in motion and come to a complete stop
  • Identify ways to maneuver through turns, curves, and roundabouts, and enter/exit highways safely

Average Completion Time

Completion times vary depending on the number of times the information is viewed prior to finishing the course. The average completion time is 25 minutes.

Testing is conducted in this online course to reinforce the information presented. You are provided three opportunities to achieve a passing mark of 80% or greater.
